UPDATED: Day 1 wrap: Botany Bay selection races

The fourth round of selection races for the team to represent Australia at this year’s world championships in Vichy, France took place on Sydney’s Botany Bay today.

The day’s first race saw Ellen Jones and Stinga F1 win the women’s open event from Maddison Boyer behind Pigs Arsenal. Jones now leads the point score with two wins and a second from three races.

In the women’s F2 event, Emma Barnes (HiJACT) signalled her intention to earn Australian selection, beating home the class’ pointscore leader Karen Follington and 99 Psycho Clowns, with Brooke Langham and Triple 666 F2 Racing third.

The men’s open race went to series leader Cameron Osborne skiing behind Stinga F1.

At the same time the men’s F2 saw Gro Up F2 and Lachlan Nix win from Jack Coaldrake and HiJACT. Jack Stevens and Race Marine had pushed Nix throughout but was issued a penalty that relegated him to third.

The junior boy’s and girl’s races were abandoned after an accident involving a 15-year-old male who required hospital treatment.

While information is being gathered and an investigation is underway by NSW Police into the accident, SRA are not in a position to make any further comment.
